LISTOPAD: Joe Cocker

Joe Cocker w grudniu odwiedzi Polskę. Zagra tylko jeden koncert - na warszawskim Torwarze. Postanowiliśmy przy tej okazji sięgnąć po płyty tego artysty - najnowszą "Hymn For My Soul", ale także te starsze. Przez cały listopad, w kolejnych audycjach Radio Ikara będziemy spotykali się z Joe Cockerem, naszym Artystą Miesiąca.

Joe Cocker przyszedł na świat w 1944 roku w Sheffield w Anglii. Pierwsze kroki na scenie stawiał jako 15-latek w lokalnym rythmandbluesowym zespole The Avengers. W 1969 roku wziął udział w programie telewizyjnym "Ed Sullivan Show". Ten występ otworzył mu drzwi do kariery - posypały się propozycje koncertów w USA, w tym zaproszenia na Festiwal Woodstock. Zaśpiewał tam piosenkę The Beatles, "With A Little Help From My Friends". A potem, to już poszło.

Joe Cocker, naszym skromnym zdaniem jest mistrzem tzw coverów, czyli pokrowców. Niezależnie od tego, czy śpiewa piosenki Beatelsów, Boba Marley'a czy Steviego Wondera robi to wyśmienicie.
Jego talent docenili nie tylko słuchacze na całym świecie, ale także królowa brytyjska. Elżbieta II w czerwcu tego roku uhonorowała Cockera Orderem Imperium Brytyjskiego.

W marcu do polskich sklepów muzycznych trafił najnowszy - 27 już - krążek artysty. Album nosi tytuł "Hymn For My Soul" i jest pewnego rodzaju powrotem Cockera do muzyki, jaką grał na początku kariery, w latach 60.
W Radiu Ikara sięgniemy do tej płyty, przypomnimy także starsze kompozycje Joe Cockera.
